Accommodation
Description
‘ALL THE WORLD’S A STAGE’ from apartment La Loggia Grand Canal – a prestigious Grand Canal address with a private terrace on the water – stylish, convenient and offering sublime Grand Canal views.
Awesomely positioned in a candy-pink Gothic ‘palazzetto’ hidden from the hubbub of San Leonardo and moments from the boat-plied Cannaregio Canal, apartment La Loggia Grand Canal offers air-conditioning* and Wi-Fi along with 2 quietly stylish bedrooms sleeping 4 guests.
A masterclass in minimalism close to Venice’s Santa Lucia Station and the atmospheric Jewish Ghetto where towering buildings, a rich history and tradition go hand-in-hand, this magically positioned property is a picture of understated elegance, peacefully tucked away on its landside yet directly on the Grand Canal.
Sharing this length of the water with the 16th-century Palazzo Vendramin Calergi – final home of composer Richard Wagner and now the Casino of Venice – its chic accommodation covers 2 floors of the property and comprises:
• A private entrance on the Campiello del Remer (Little Square of the Rower) with etched glass panels opening directly into –
• La Loggia Grand Canal’s streamlined kitchen/dining room with artic-white integrated units, a very cool Retratos Iluminados 06 ceiling lamp by Instituto Campana set above a Knoll Saarinen Table with Tulip chairs seating 6, plus a resident penguin to greet you at the door!
• A spacious sitting room to the front ¬– bright, supremely tasteful and guarded by a docile polar bear! ¬and home to glossy white marble flooring reflecting the abundant light, rough-hewn wooden timbers adding warmth overhead, contemporary grey and teal-blue velvet furnishings beside a wall print of the George Peabody Library of the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore and – and most jaw-droppingly fabulous of all – a wonderful glass-backed and partially-covered south-facing furnished terrace overlooking the glittering waters of the Grand Canal and enjoying an endlessly-fascinating and ever-changing vista extending from Ferrovia, the Scalzi and the Church of San Geremia to the right, across to the Fondaco Dei Turchi (Venice’s Natural History Museum) and the route to the Rialto to the left.
• A cool and calm double bedroom to the rear in muted mushroom colours with a modern 4-poster double bed, inbuilt wardrobe and an en suite bathroom to the side with a rain shower at its centre against a floor-to-ceiling sepia mural of the loggia at the Doge’s Palace.
A contemporary white-painted steel cantilevered staircase rises from the kitchen/dining room to the floor above where we find, on one side of the landing –
• A spacious and romantic master double bedroom/suite dressed in similar colours to bedroom no. 1 and with a double bed, inbuilt wardrobe, wooden flooring and an exquisite pair of dual-aspect, floor-to-ceiling Gothic windows opening onto a wraparound balcony looking over the campiello and the Grand Canal beneath – and, separated by a pair of sliding doors and a clear glass wall panel set above the bedhead* – a 3rd sleeping/dressing area with daybed/single sofa bed and a further Gothic window onto the water below.
And completing the accommodation on the opposite side of the landing –
• A separate modern bathroom with rain shower.

OUR COMMENT
Your own private ‘theatre box’ directly on the ‘Canale Grande’ where the spectacle of Venice springs to life before your eyes!
Within walking distance of Santa Lucia Railway Station (Ferrovia) and Piazzale Roma if travelling light, and close to 2 vaporetto (water bus) stops – San Marcuola for hassle-free travel about town and Guglie on the Cannaregio Canal for travel to the beaches of the Lido, visits to the glass-blowing island of Murano and connections at Fondamente Novo for travel to the rainbow-coloured island of Burano and the ancient island of Torcello.
An easy stroll to the historic Jewish Ghetto (the oldest in the world) and to the Jewish Museum of Venice, to the bustling shops and food stalls along Rio Terà San Leonardo, to the fish stall near the Guglie Bridge and to the fresco-ceilinged Despar supermarket within the old Teatro Italia (visually remarkable both inside and out).
Also close to the well-regarded restaurant, La Colombina (near the Despar supermarket) and within easy reach of the popular Dalla Marisa and Trattoria Pontini on the Cannaregio Canal, and the Fondamenta Dei Ormesini and Fondamenta Misericordia waterfronts (reached via the Rio Terà Farsetti) for a great selection of laid-back local bars, cafes and restaurants including Sullaluna bookshop and bistrot, Al Timon, Dodo Caffè, Birreria Zanon, Da Rioba, Paradiso Perduto and Vino Vero… to name just a few!

Generally, the heating works from middle of October to middle of April, while air conditioning works between middle of Aprile to middle of October. Please contact us for further information.

Minor point, but could have done with some more wine glasses (only 3 available) and cutlery. Also missed some kitchen towels and dishcloths, so we went out and bought some ourselves.

Some of the blinds on the second floor need some re-stringing. The bathroom door needs adjustments for it to fully open and close. The faucet in this bathroom needs some plumbing job.

The two of us had to put off our stay at this gorgeous location three years, because you know pandemic, but it was worth the wait. We came straight from the airport on a water taxi set up by Views on Venice, right to our private dock only feet from the door to this two level, sleek paradise view. Met at the dock by a VoV rep who showed us around and left us with plenty of information, we got to discover Venice from this quiet, yet convenient location. This place is a short walk from all the supplies you would need and close to vaporetto docks as well as the train station...yet the neighborhood has a very local feel.
The insides are just as gorgeous as the photos. Sleek and modern interior, with a great use of the plentiful space. We enjoyed cooking a couple of meals there and loved the inversion cooktop in the kitchen. The upstairs bedroom with its own private second floor balcony is a great place to wake up to the sunrise, and watch the heart of Venice get going each morning as the boats dock outside to deliver supplies for the islands. Which brings us to the view. The view is amazing, you have not one but two balconies overlooking the Grand Canal. We spent multiple early evenings sitting out and watching the sun set from the first floor balcony as we enjoyed a bottle of wine. Even raised a glass or two to tourists heading by on their vaporetto as they took photos of us "locals" sitting on our overlook. The view is magical, we miss it already. |

The stairs to the upstairs bedroom are quite steep so the rails could be reinforced - one side was a bit loose, and some non-slip tread perhaps. Just a maintenance issue - easily resolved.

An ancient canal-side palace within minutes of St. Mark’s Square. Hidden away on its landside within the secret courtyard ‘Corte Rubbi’, on the Castello/San Marco border, this once forgotten building has been magically transformed by restorers with vision and interior design savoir-faire. Standing at the gondola-busy T-junction of the San Zulian and Bareteri canals, and encapsulating 10 dazzling apartments of varying colourway and size, the newly launched Corte Rubbi is but a stroll to some of Venice’s most iconic attractions and countless beguiling vistas on which to feast your eyes! Easy to find (when you know the way!) from the shop-lined Campo San Bartolomeo and Salizada San Lio on one of Venice’s canal-encircled ‘islands within an island’, these imaginatively furnished apartments offer Wi-Fi and a communal laundry room and are spread across 4 floors with all upper floors reached by stairs. Highly contemporary in style, air-conditioned** throughout and ranging from a charming studio for 4 to a fabulous penthouse with rooftop terrace, Corte Rubbi’s 10 apartments sleep up to 42 guests if booked exclusively and include: Corte Rubbi 9 – on the 3rd Floor reached by stairs – sleeping 4 (+1). Upon previous request we can organize a porter service with a surcharge. A vibrant and easy-living 2-bedroom apartment with sublime canal views comprising: A main living / dining area delightfully decked out in shades of teal blue, taupe and Cole & Son’s Procuratie Con Vista wallpaper with warm wooden flooring underfoot, wooden beams overhead, a double sofa sleeping one guest and a pair of windows with decorative balustrades facing the water enjoying a view of the bridges over the charming ‘Rio dei Bareteri’ canal (Canal of the Cap Makers) and the little balcony of the secret little Casino Venier – an 18th-century ‘ridotto’ (today a cultural institution well hidden from the tourist crowds!) Also in this room is a kitchenette to the rear, well equipped and suited to light cooking 2 gorgeous double bedrooms each with a double bed, Cole & Son’s Fornasetti Acqaurio wallpaper, and windows with decorative balustrades offering canal views to the fore (one with a direct view onto the ‘Rio dei Bareteri’) Two luxurious bathrooms in marble, one with chromotherapy shower Are you part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in separate apartments? We offer 9 other apartments within this palazzo: Corte Rubbi 1, Corte Rubbi 3, Corte Rubbi 5, Corte Rubbi 6, Corte Rubbi 8, Corte Rubbi 10, Corte Rubbi 11 and Corte Rubbi 5514 OUR COMMENT A characterful and easy-living canal-view apartment in a vibrant, central and endlessly fascinating part of town. A few steps away from the 18th-century church of Santa Maria Della Fava and close to a host of famous sights and attractions including the atmospheric Venetian time-capsule that is the Querini Stampalia, the fabulous Palazzo Grimani just off Campo Santa Maria Formosa, the Church of San Zaccaria with its crypt and wonderful Bellini altarpiece, and Vivaldi’s La Pietà on the sunny Riva degli Schiavoni waterfront… … A short stroll towards a very sedate pace of life lived out amongst the tranquil calles, canals and green spaces of Castello with its laid-back and very genuine neighbourhood vibe… … Or rise with the lark to embrace the atmosphere of St. Mark’s Square (‘the Piazza’) gloriously near-empty before its visitors arrive… or visit at night when the orchestras of Quadri and Florian play*, the bells of the Campanile (bell tower) toll, the marble of the Doge’s Palace glows, and the mosaics of the Basilica shimmer in the darkness… Close to a host of shops, restaurants and bars including the much-lauded Alle Testiere, the upmarket Bistrot de Venise and Alle Corone of the nearby Hotel Reali, the charming Osteria Al Portego (delicious cicheti!) and Osteria Ae Sconte, plus Ristorante Santa Maria Formosa with its tables on the campo. Also within easy reach of 4 well-stocked supermarkets – a Despar at Calle al Ponte de la Guerra, a COOP at Salizada San Lio, and a COOP and a Despar on the Riva del Carbon (near the Rialto Bridge), along with a ‘Vino Sfuso’ (wine on tap) shop on Calle del Mondo Novo and a greengrocer’s stand at Campo Santa Maria Formosa. Within a short stroll of the vaporetto (water bus) stop at Rialto for exploring the city, the ‘Traghetto’ gondola ferry carrying passengers across the Grand Canal between the Riva Del Carbon and San Silvestro in the San Polo district and the vaporetto (water bus) stop at San Zaccaria for trips around town, visits to the Lido beaches and to the Biennale Pavilions at Arsenale and Giardini. *Note that performances are dependent on weather and season **Please note that the operation of air conditioning and heating are subjected to the municipality regulation. An extraordinary 15th-century palazzo of exceptional beauty, revealing its secrets to the fortunate few, on the banks of the Grand Canal. Rarely do we see a Venetian property of such standing and so immaculately restored that it takes one’s breath away. So let us introduce you to the Gothic Palazzo Dell’ Angelo gently kissing the water’s edge between the Rialto and San Samuele, yet away from the crowds and offering ravishing views, moments from Campo Sant’ Angelo in the ‘sestiere’ of San Marco. Sharing this super-prestigious stretch of the Canale Grande with such historically hallowed neighbours as the famous Palazzo Mocenigo and the fairytale Palazzo Pisani Moretta directly opposite, the illustrious Palazzo Dell’ Angelo encapsulates 4 superior apartments, each set to exceed your expectations of a Venetian luxury rental property. Marrying a meticulously considered décor with a timeless air of privilege (along with a sense that a Venetian ‘home’ simply doesn’t get better than this!) the palazzo can host up to 28 guests when booked exclusively and boasts an exclusive Grand Canal water gate (porta dell’ acqua) for direct travel by private water taxi. Once the property of the ancient Garzoni family (originally from Bologna, they later became citizens of the Venetian Republic) and once home to the magnificent library of the notable historian, Pietro Garzoni (1652-1719), the palace is blessed with a truly memorable panoramic vista captured by Canaletto in his 1725 painting ‘Grand Canal: Looking North-East towards the Rialto Bridge’. Discretely accessed landside via its ‘secret’ arch-and-column-fringed internal courtyard, Palazzo Dell’ Angelo’s 4 apartments are of differing sizes and styles. Served by stairs and lift and offering a host of contemporary accoutrements (including air-conditioning and Wi-Fi) they comprise: Palazzo Dell’ Angelo Fenice Loft (3rd Floor reached by lift – Sleeping 4 guests) A chic pied-à-terre immaculately dressed in light colours and with design touches throughout, offering 2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms and a dainty terrace with views. Available in combination with apartment Palazzo Dell’ Angelo Rialto apartment (and sleeping 12 when booked together), the Loft apartment exudes an ambience of crisp and clutter-free elegance and comprises: • A bright and super-stylish open-plan main sitting / dining room / well-equipped kitchen beneath sloping whitewashed beams, with a bijou south-facing terrace serving to bring the ‘outside in’ • 2 quietly tasteful double bedrooms with beams dressed in similar style • 2 beautiful bathrooms, each clad in marble * Please note the restricted headspace in certain areas of the apartment ** Are you part of a larger group who’d like to stay close to each other but in separate apartments? We offer 3 other apartments in this beautiful Venetian palazzo: Palazzo Dell’ Angelo Rialto luxury apartment, Palazzo Dell’ Angelo Frari Altana and Palazzo Dell’ Angelo Piano Nobile OUR COMMENT A masterful mix of contemporary and traditional, coming together as one within an exquisite Grand Canal palazzo. Wonderfully situated in an exclusive area known for its antique shops and galleries close to Campo Santo Stefano – one of Venice’s best-loved squares - the Palazzo Grassi Museum of Modern Art and the Accademia Bridge leading over to the Accademia Galleries and the district of Dorsoduro. Within easy reach of a selection of restaurants, bars, cafes and shops, including a grocery/delicatessen and a well-stocked local wine shop. Within a stone’s throw of 2 vaporetto (water bus) stops for easy travel around town (San Samuele - Line 2 and Sant' Angelo - Line 1), and within steps of the 'traghetto' service (situated literally beside the palazzo) ferrying passengers by gondola across the Grand Canal to San Toma (close to the Frari) in the district of San Polo. Moments to the gallery of interior designer Chiarastella Cattana - a discreetly sophisticated showroom of fine and distinctively woven textiles and furnishings and, for scent-lovers, steps away from the Venice outlet of the famous Florentine ‘Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella’ – one of the oldest pharmacies in the world and one time fragrance maker to Catherine de’ Medici.3 reviews
