Description
Please note that due to the nature of the property children under 12 are not allowed.
A remarkable ‘casa’ in dreamy Campo San Trovaso, within a minute’s stroll of the Zattere waterfront in the arty district of Dorsoduro.
Picture perfect on the outside and astonishing within, Dimora San Trovaso has been transformed to ravishing effect. Like an uber-elegant grande dame who dares to don the latest fashions yet remains faithful to the classic threads that simply never go out of style, its striking interior is the brainchild of Studio 2046 of Treviglio, Lombardy and cocoons 4 (+2) guests in considerable comfort.
Marrying opulent Fortuny fabrics handcrafted on the nearby Venetian island of Giudecca with bespoke lighting, courageous colours and original parquet flooring, this highly individual home sparkles with spirit and personality in startling (and welcome) contrast to the humdrum and boring!
Enjoying sublime views across the bright and open canal-fringed campo to one of the last remaining gondola workshops still in operation in Venice, and within moments of the celebrated bar Cantine del Vino già Schiavi (a favourite with the locals and home to some of the best cicchetti in town), the friendly Gelateria Lo Squero (ice-cream bliss!), and the Accademia Bridge and Galleries (simply not to be missed), this memorable 4-storey ‘dimora’ offers Wi-Fi and air-conditioning** in 4 bedroom accommodation comprising:
Ground Floor
• Your own exclusive front door on the campo
• An entrance hall with Venetian terrazzo floors and mirrored cloak cupboard hinting at the exceptional accommodation to come
• A characterful and ‘chicissimo’ beamed sitting room in terracotta, made bright courtesy of the windows to the fore and brimming with designer pieces including a deep claret-red velvet sofa against a backdrop of Fortuny’s plush ‘Laotze’ fabric (designed in 1933 by Mariano Fortuny) and showcasing a pair of exquisite white glass vases by Venetian glass artist Massimo Micheluzzi (whose studio and gallery can be found just along the fondamenta), all perfectly in tune with the room’s restored original flooring and softly lit by custom-made lighting designed by Studio 2046
• A cleverly concealed sliding door opening to reveal a peaceful and relaxing en suite double bedroom to the rear, sumptuously dressed in JAB ANSTOETZ and Fortuny textiles, with a double bed and a pristine bathroom with monochrome tiling and shower
Remodelled wooden stairs* rising to the:
1st Floor featuring spectacular square-patterned original parquet flooring and…
• A bijou single bedroom / dressing room presented in olive green and Fortuny’s ‘Camo Isole’ Venetian camouflage design fabric in army green with island forms in their metallic ‘stampa' and furnished with a single sofa bed, generous shelving and a luxurious velvet-covered wardrobe
• A separate deluxe bathroom with marble-lined shower
• A bright and welcoming en suite double bedroom – a picture of happiness in sunny golden yellow – with Fortuny’s pretty ‘Cimarosa’ fabric, a beautifully attired double bed and velvet wardrobe, plus a fabulous bathroom enrobed in deep green marble with bathtub, separate shower and burnished brass fittings
Stairs rising to the:
2nd Floor where you can while away your downtime or chill out with friends and family in…
• The handsome and spacious main sitting / dining room enveloping guests in walls of teal blue and Fortuny’s ‘Glicine’ fabric in green and gold (a 17th-century design) and decadently furnished with a Studio 2046-designed velvet sofa, a luxurious custom-handmade rug by the internationally renowned Ilullian of Milan, and an original 1930s Art Deco dining suite simply oozing retro charm
• And, partially open to the main sitting space, the compact yet well-equipped kitchen with a gleaming brass finish laminated in gold and a little Juliet balcony overlooking the campo
Final stairs rising to the:
3rd (top) Floor and
• An additional single bedroom / dressing room sitting beneath the eaves with a single sofa bed, shelving and a velvet-covered wardrobe
And completing Dimora San Trovaso’s extraordinary accommodation…
• A separate immaculate bathroom with luxurious marble-clad shower
*Please note that Dimora San Trovaso does not have a lift / elevator due to the age and historic nature of the property
OUR COMMENT
An inspirational restoration with gorgeous views on a sunny campo in a location highly favoured by Venice residents and the cognoscenti!
A short amble to the picturesque Campo San Barnaba, the iconic Church of the Salute, the Accademia Galleries and Bridge, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, the Palazzo Cini Gallery, plus the Punta Della Dogana Center of Contemporary Art, and close to a variety of fine restaurants and bars including Ristorante Riviera, Enoteca Ai Artisti, Oniga, Locanda Montin, Osteria Al Squero and Cantine del Vino già Schiavi to name but a few.
An easy waterside stroll to the well-stocked Conad supermarket at the western end of the Zattere and to 4 vaporetto (water bus) stops – Zattere, Zattere Spirito Santo, Accademia and Salute – for easy travel around the city (note that St. Mark’s Square can be reached by vaporetto from Salute in under 5 minutes on Line 1!)
Within easy reach of the Alilaguna boat stop connecting the Zattere to Venice's Marco Polo Airport and close to the traghetto at Calle Lanza / Calle del Traghetto San Gregorio which, during operating hours, ferries passengers by gondola across the Grand Canal to the district of San Marco.
**Please note that the operation of air conditioning and heating are subjected to the municipality regulation. Generally, the heating works from middle of October to middle of April, while air conditioning works between middle of Aprile to middle of October. Please contact us for further information.

We’ve used Views on Venice 6 times over the past 10 years, staying at 4 different properties, all of which were wonderful (original Ca’ delle Vele, we miss you so). This was THE most beautiful. Elegantly furnished and designed, quality finishes, top-notch air-conditioning and perfect, perfect location. Would stay here over and over again. Probably because it’s so new, the kitchen was lacking a few things needed to make dinner at home (sauté pan, grater, spatula), but that was just a minor inconvenience and all the food basics were provided (oil, pepper, salt etc). All in all, Views on Venice is the very best in the industry with really great, friendly service. Several pieces of luggage were delayed on arrival and they were kind enough to assist with that. Much appreciated. Till next time.

Maybe just a sauté pan for eggs etc, as mentioned above. Otherwise, everything was perfect as usual.

I have rented many apartments around the world, but it is very difficult to combine the elegance of the furnishings, traditional but contemporary at the same time, the comfort of being in a four bedrooms detached house and an amazing location, Campo San Trovaso, one of the most beautiful places in Venezia. It is close to everything but also very quiet: the perfect spot to have fun but also to relax!

An ancient canal-side palace within minutes of St. Mark’s Square. Hidden away on its landside within the secret courtyard ‘Corte Rubbi’, on the Castello/San Marco border, this once forgotten building has been magically transformed by restorers with vision and interior design savoir-faire. A few steps away from the 18th-century church of Santa Maria Della Fava and close to a host of famous sights and attractions including the atmospheric Venetian time-capsule that is the Querini Stampalia, the fabulous Palazzo Grimani just off Campo Santa Maria Formosa, the Church of San Zaccaria with its crypt and wonderful Bellini altarpiece, and Vivaldi’s La Pietà on the sunny Riva degli Schiavoni waterfront… … A short stroll towards a very sedate pace of life lived out amongst the tranquil calles, canals and green spaces of Castello with its laid-back and very genuine neighbourhood vibe… … Or rise with the lark to embrace the atmosphere of St. Mark’s Square (‘the Piazza’) gloriously near-empty before its visitors arrive… or visit at night when the orchestras of Quadri and Florian play*, the bells of the Campanile (bell tower) toll, the marble of the Doge’s Palace glows, and the mosaics of the Basilica shimmer in the darkness… Close to a host of shops, restaurants and bars including the much-lauded Alle Testiere, the upmarket Bistrot de Venise and Alle Corone of the nearby Hotel Reali, the charming Osteria Al Portego (delicious cicheti!) and Osteria Ae Sconte, plus Ristorante Santa Maria Formosa with its tables on the campo. Tucked away in arty Dorsoduro and beguiling guests with its verdant charm Sits our sublime new Venetian ‘casa’, the serene Corte della Palma… Named after the flourishing palm trees stretching up to the skies from its expansive lawned garden (all yours!) near the pretty Rio delle Romite canal, this peaceful inner sanctum with its highly desirable address promises an exceptional Venetian experience for up to 6 guests. Fabulously positioned just a few doors down from the famous old-school Locanda Montin and one bridge (and a short alleyway) from the sparkling Zattere promenade, the recently remodelled Corte della Palma takes its interiors to the next dimension with bold design imaginatively paired with traditional pieces and object d’art. A million miles away in mindset from the (sometimes) madding crowds of Venice and offering abundant space to kick back and let the outside world slip by, the property comprises 3 luxurious and tranquil bedrooms with accommodation spread over the ground and 1st floors (reached by stairs). Counting Wi-Fi, air-conditioning* throughout and a washing machine / dryer amongst its attributes along with an aura that clearly announces that this is a special place indeed, the property is reached via the ‘blink and miss it’ Calle degli Occhialeri (Street of the Opticians) and comprises: Ground Floor A private front door opening into the entrance hall of the house which in turn leads into… A bright and utterly delightful open-plan main living space composed of… A sitting area with cool stone flooring (a treat for the feet during warmer weather), a large L-shaped sofa with additional velvet tub-style seating ideal for chilling, a wall-size handmade mirror with antique finish realised by Ongaro e Fuga on the nearby glass-making island of Murano, all lit by a rare and spectacular 19th-century French ‘Pampille’ crystal chandelier Arch-headed French doors leading to a charming wooden-decked internal courtyard shaded by fabric ‘sails’, furnished with cushioned seating and doubling up as an ‘al fresco’ sitting room when the weather is fine A stylish dining space with a contemporary dining suite hosting 6 guests lit by a second antique ‘Pampille’ chandelier, and a glazed door opening to reveal Corte della Palma’s remarkable and gorgeously grassy 200sqm walled garden boasting a wonderful furnished paved terrace / loggia illuminated by Venetian hand-blown lanterns at night for memorable dinners beneath the stars, freshly planted flower borders beside characterful herringbone paving, an ancient and very charming ‘vera da pozzo’ wellhead that would have been used in years gone by to provide the residents of the house with fresh water, and a pair of sun-loungers with parasol on a further terrace beneath the palm trees… a slice of pure heaven… who knew Venice had such gardens?! A modern and well-equipped kitchen with sparkling marble worktops and everything one needs for rustling up an Italian feast** A pristine contemporary bathroom in polished marble with shower Stone stairs rising to the… 1st Floor, where we find Corte della Palma’s 3 deluxe bedrooms, each with traditional terrazzo flooring and whitewashed beams overhead… The restful principal bedroom dressed in pink and greys with a double bed, a Les Dominotiers Sovana Grisaille bespoke panoramic wall mural from the long-established Luise Parati of Padua, and a contemporary en suite bathroom enrobed in striking grey and white marble with shower A splendid 2nd double bedroom with delightful garden views, a double bed dressed in shades of pink, turquoise and mustard, wallpaper from the Japanese Khroma Kimono Collection by Masureel and a separate immaculate bathroom with shower shared with… The bijou 3rd bedroom overlooking Corte della Palma’s internal courtyard, dressed in dramatic teal blue and Midnight Walk wallpaper from Caselio and with a (small) double bed **Alternatively get in touch for further details of ‘A TAVOLA’ – VOV’s new purpose-designed and professionally equipped Venetian Home-Kitchen – situated almost opposite Corte della Palma on the Rio delle Romite canal, where we celebrate the Italian passion for great food, wine and good company through informal, hands-on COOKING CLASSES with menus focusing on traditional Italian and Venetian cuisine along with easy-going and informative sommelier-led Italian WINE TASTINGS – we hope to see you there! OUR COMMENT The rare gift of a garden and a beautifully curated home brought together in a perfect package in the Dorsoduro sestiere!
